It all depends on if you RECYCLE.

Let’s face it.  We are all concerned about our obsessive use of plastics in modern day life.

As creators of Quantum Structured Water, we made a choice 19 years ago to use 8 ounce PET bottles. People continually question this choice and inquire about our use of PET instead of glass.

Their question- can we produce our concentrate in glass bottles. I would like you to know that I have visited this question on many occasions over the last 20 years of our bottling history.

You may be wondering why a company dedicated to evolving consciousness and breakthrough ideas would use quality PET bottles instead of glass for our structured water.

Well, for one thing, glass increases the costs of bottling, shipping, and manufacturing. It also increases the potential for damage exponentially. These costs, of course, would have to pass on to the consumer. In a perfect world, there would be no breakage and everything would arrive in perfect condition. This is not the case in the “real world.”

Here are some of the facts for your consideration:

~Most people would say that plastic bottles are an environmental problem especially when they are discarded in oceans or littering tourist trails. However, they are not a problem if they are recycled or reused.

~Many people would say that glass packaging is more environmentally friendly than plastic because glass is a more natural substance and requires less energy to manufacture and/or recycle. People also think that all plastics leach toxins into the contents of their containers.

~However, glass is not all it is cracked up to be for the following reasons:

  • It breaks.
  • It costs more to ship.
  • It is more expensive to recycle.
  • Glass takes twice as much energy to produce.
  • More pollution is created in the manufacture, shipping, and recycling of glass.
  • Glass creates more than 6 times the global warming gases than plastic.

~The cons of using plastic packaging are:

  • Litter (but people throw glass away too)
  • Some plastics can leach chemicals.
  • Some plastics contain PVCs. (Ours do not. This is the value of high-quality PET bottles. They are closest to glass in molecular structure.)

~The fossil fuels required to generate the very high temperatures needed to form glass are just one of the considerations.

~Clearly there are some products that definitely need glass, but plastic is much for the environment in many cases.

I am currently researching other options that are green for example recycled PET, or pouches. To date, I have not found a solution that would be reliable and maintain the quality of our product line. Please contact me directly if you have a solution. I look forward to hearing from you!

So for our structured water customers who are reading this, please recycle the PET bottles. It’s an easy way to be green and make a difference.
